our goal

Making Surgical Risk Predictable.

Safer outpatient surgery with better outcomes for patients, providers and purchasers.

Safer outpatient surgery with better outcomes for patients, providers and purchasers.

“In the modern era of healthcare, the transformation of patient surgical care from the inpatient to the outpatient setting will herald an unprecedented level of risk to the surgeon and provider facility.”

Chief Executive Officer, Soteria Medical Risk

Through our proprietary data analytics, Soteria Medical Risk intends to overhaul how the healthcare and insurance industries assess and manage surgical risk.

Today, the industry uses a generic approach to assess risk and a shotgun approach to manage it. Since they can’t predict the risk of a specific surgeon or facility, risk bearing entities require surgeons to complete the same risk management curriculum whether relevant to their risk profile or not. The current approach is expensive, time consuming, and only marginally effective.

In stark contrast, Soteria has developed a patent pending Surgical Risk Assessment Program (SRAP) (U.S. Provisional Patent Application No.: 62/696,439) to predict risk at the surgeon and facility levels. Adding our SRAP to the industry’s standard medical malpractice risk assessment positions Soteria to customize risk management solutions for its customers helping them move the dial on patient safety further faster.

Our research indicates more than 60 percent of surgical procedures can be performed same day in a hospital outpatient department (HOPD) or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). That number will continue to rise with technology advancements and continued pressure to reduce the cost of healthcare to the federal government, commercial payers and consumers. HOPDs will experience some growth, but ASCs will likely receive the lion’s share due to their relative cost position.
